The Vet Team of Pirena 2011 is composed by people with a wide experience in the world of the Sleddog races. All of them are members of the ISDVMA (International Sled dog Veterinary Medical Association).
Jaime Martínez
Chief of the Veterinary Team Pirena Advance, El Masnou, Barcelona.
He has been collaborating with Pirena since 1998 as well as with the Spanish sled dog Championships since 1999 and he has participated several times as a vet in races like the Iditarod in North America (Alaska), the Race to the Sky (Montana), the Yukon Quest (Alaska and Canada) and in Europe like the long distance race Finnmarkslopet (Norway). He is a Board member of the anti-doping control and ISDVMA Assistant for IFSS. He currently works in his clinic for small animals in El Masnou, Barcelona, when his chats, his involvement in races and dedication to this sport as a vet allow it.
Richard Long: Edmont (Canada).
Veterinarian with wide experience. He has participated in almost all the sled dog races taking place in North America (Race to the Sky, Iditarod ...) and in Europe (Norway Finnmarkslopet, Pirena ...). He has been Chief Veterinary in several races like the legendary Yukon Quest (Alaska - Canada). It is the fifth time he collaborates with the Pirena. He likes winter sports where he finds any adventure to live.
He is the Vice President of ISDVMA. He currently works as a veterinary in his clinic for small animals in Canada.
Mónica Pacheco: Madrid.
For many years engaged in sleddog races. She has participated in sled dogs races in North America (Yukon Quest) and Europe (Finnmarkslopet, Norway).
She is a Member of ISDVMA anti-doping control and Assistant to the IFSS. She travels to anywhere she can find snow. It is the sixth time she collaborates with Pirena. She currently works in her clinic for small animals in Pozuelo de Alarcon, Madrid.
Jorge Antonio Luque: Marbella, Málaga
This vet from Malaga has specialized in rehabilitation and physical therapy with work dogs. in Pirena 2009 he participated as a therapeutic veterinary and a handler of an Andalusian team. He is a Member of ISDVMA. He currently practices the veterinary profession in the vet center of Marbella called Dogo Azul.
Laura Ravaschio: Rome, Italy
Italian Veterinary with experience in the field of working dogs (surface and avalanche rescue). She has participated in several international races like the Transitalia and the American Race to the Sky in Montana. She is a Member of ISDVMA and anti-doping Control Assistant for IFSS.
She currently works as a veterinary in its clinic for small animal in Rome, Italy, and in her spare time she likes to combine her profession with holidays while performing veterinary alternatives, such as collaborating with a recovery center for wild monkeys in South Africa.
Enthusiast of this sport she was accompanying the race as a guest three years ago during a conference. This year she will accompany us throughout the race as a member of the veterinary team Pirena-Advance.
