TOM ANDRES, KING OF THE PYRENEES
La Molina (Gerona) .- The German Tom Andres, Gaes team, has won Pirena 2010 Grand Prix Advance, after the celebration this morning of the last stage in the facilities of La Molina in front of the large audience that has come to
the winter ski resort to witness the final outcome of a strategic issue.
Tom Andres has been the best from start to finish, the absolute ruler over the whole race, and has been the winner in a total of 12 stage .
No one had achieved such overwhelming success obtained by the German musher and his dogs. The German has said: " Perhaps from outside may look easy, but the truth is that this victory has taken a lot of effort, many hours of training and long treatment and understanding with the dogs. The result of this effort is great: it has been a great Pirena, perfect for us". Andres had already won PIRENA in 2008, although not with the authority like in this edition. Then he won five stages and became half-mile this year. The German musher has stressed that Pirena is a great family, and for him is a pride to belong to this family. This year has been a luxury, with very good snow conditions and dreamy landscapes.
In general, Tom Andres has taken 33 minutes to the Navarre Iker Ozcoidi (Gaes) and 40 to the Czech Pfeifer, who accompanied him on the final podium in La Molina.
Pirena 2010 balance is very positive. Pep Parés, Pirena director, said: we had luck and sponsors have supported us, and we should be very happy: there was spectacle and adventure, there has been snow in quantity and quality at all stages, there have been good sportsmanship and climate".
The final stage of La Molina, a little over three miles which included a very steep slope, has been won by Jesus Raigoso (Advance), followed by Kjetil Hillestad (Catalunya Neu) and Kiko Vallespí (ACANA).
In the modality of skijoring, the Czech Jiri Suchy has set 15 minutes ahead of the Norwegian Lena Boysen and 32 minutes on Suzana Strosová. In Nordic class, the Spaniards Jesús Martínez and Lázaro Martinez have joined on the podium the successful Tamara Schlemmer.
